E-file still available after April 17

Some Prepareers or Professionals actions indicate that the IRS e-file program ends with the last day to file a return not on extension. It is important to know that the service will accept electronically filed 1999 returns until October 16, 2000. Filing a return electronically after the due date still speeds up the receipt of the refund, reduces the math error rate and provides you with a confirmation the return is received by the service within 48 hours. If you submitted an automatic extension by paper, you can still file the completed return electronically.
