This article informs you of the essential information to place on the check making the installment payment to the IRS.  Including this information will help to assure the IRS posts the payment to your account properly.

Below the written instructions is a sample check filled out appropriately.

The check should show the following:

1.       pay to: Department of Treasury

2.      Date of check

3.      Amount of the monthly payment (numerals and text)

4.      Lower left should show:

a.      Social Security or Employer ID number

b.      Tax form

c.       Year of tax

d.      Names as shown on tax form
