Reminder - Legal Counsel Requirement for "Privacy Statements"
 
If your law firm performs the following engagements your firm is required to prepare and make available to individual clients a privacy statement.  (Read the FTC's April 8, 2002, letter refusing to act on the ABA's exemption request and the ABA's April 11 response by President Robert Hirshon.)
  1. Bankruptcy
  2. Tax - Estate, Income or other tax bases; advice, planning or preparation
  3. Real Estate Closings
  4. Divorce
  5. Leasing real or personal property or advising in such leasing;
  6. Debt collecting;
  7. Financial advisory activities, including management consulting and counseling activities; and
  8. Tax planning, preparation and advising.
