SUGGESTION CHECKLIST

I. PRELIMINARY THOUGHTS. Before writing a  suggestion, the following questions should be answered in the affirmative:
[] Is a change needed to accomplish the objective, rather than effecting the change administratively (e.g., compliance with internal policies, or procedural changes)?
[] Does the suggestion have potentially broad application, rather than addressing a single customer or a very limited situation?
II. WRITING A SUGGESTION. Consider the following:
A. The proposal:
[] Clearly state the problem/issue.
[] Identify the policy or procedure that causes the problem.
[] Suggest a solution.
B. Reasons for change:
[] Explain how current policy and/or procedures cause the problem or fail to address certain situations.
[] Discuss the benefits of the suggestion. For example:
-> simplification of the policy or procedures
-> compliance, adminitrative or other burden reduction
-> firm or customre safeguard or protection
-> potential administrative cost savings
-> compliance benefits
-> potential revenue gain
C. Provide the originator's name, telephone number, and facsimile number.
III. REVIEW/SCREENING PROCESS. The following questions should be considered before the suggestion is forwarded:
[] Does the screening office/function think the suggestion is a good idea?
[] Can the objective be accomplished only by a change in the policy or procedure?
[] Is all pertinent information provided?
